aparokshanubhuto Just as a jar is all earth, so also is the body all consciousness. In the absence of an effect there can be no cause. The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad states that the Self, the essence of everything, is limitless.

But if the Self is non-dual and everything is the Self including me, then I am already whole and complete and therefore I need not create some kind of experience that will make me feel good. For those whose minds are purified Raja Yoga alone will result in Self realization.


Just as a pot is only clay, the body is only Awareness. The wise should always think with great care of the invisible, the visible, and everything else, as his own Self which is consciousness itself. Just as earth is the material cause of a pot, Awareness is the material cause of ignorance and the thoughts it produces. To those who have neither the time nor the opportunity to go through the classical works of Shankara, this book will be an invaluable guide in their quest after spiritual truth.
