Like his early paintings, Chirico issues forth a series of startling images “word strokes”—to borrow a phrase from Ezra Pound that draw the reader into an oneiric world of windy mountains, summer storms, changing seasons, clouds, night, day, etc.
There’s a certain type of cihrico writing that I call the “descriptive assault,” in which images are simply hurled at the reader, and we are left to put the pieces together.
